Peruvian guano is most advantageously applied as a top-dressing to young corn and particularly to oats.

For this reason it acts best when applied in small quantity as a top-dressing to grass-land, and to young corn.

It has been employed alone for turnips, or mixed with farm-yard manure, and also as a top-dressing to cereals.

Straw is occasionally employed as a manure, and sometimes even as a top-dressing for grass land.

It is usually best to pull out the weeds and give the border a top-dressing each fall of well rotted manure.
